Azoospermia (obstructive and non-obstructive)

What is azoospermia?

Some men have no sperm in their ejaculate. This is known as ‘azoospermia’.

‘Obstructive’ azoospermia is where there is a physical obstruction that prevents the passage of sperm within the male body.

‘Non-obstructive’ azoospermia is where the absence of sperm in the ejaculate is due to defective production of sperm in the male body.

How does azoospermia affect your fertility?

As sperm is required for conception, azoospermia negatively affects male fertility.

How can azoospermia be diagnosed and treated?

At Bourn Hall, we’re experts in diagnosing azoospermia. We have many medical techniques to assist men with this condition:

  • PESA/SSR (surgical sperm retrieval)
  • TESA (testicular sperm aspiration)
  • TESE (testicular sperm extraction)
